The Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales, Aled Roberts, has today secured a commitment from the First Minister to ensure that Betsi Cadwaladr health board will apply more transparency to the way it deals with improving waiting times for treatment in North Wales.

Commenting following his question to the First Minister in the Siambr today, Aled Roberts said:

“It is completely unacceptable that patients looking for treatment for chronic pain in the North Wales health board area are having to wait anywhere from 30 to 78 weeks for treatment.

“In some instances, patients who would normally be seen at Wrexham Maelor are now having to travel to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd for treatment due to the massive waiting lists.

“It is clear that Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board is struggling to provide chronic pain services and following the First Minister’s acknowledgement that the situation is unacceptable I will now expect to see easily-accessible records of waiting times for treatment on the Betsi Cadwaladr website along with detailed plans as to how they will be reduced.

“No-one in chronic pain should be put in the intolerable position of waiting a year for pain-relief treatment”.
