Aled Roberts, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales has called on the First Minister to ensure that specialists providing prosthetics services in North Wales are rewarded with competitive pay grades.
Commenting following First Minister’s Questions in the Siambr today, Aled Roberts said:
“The artificial limb service has suffered recently as a number of specialist staff have left to work elsewhere and patients are suffering as a result.
“I have raised my concerns about this service to the Welsh Labour Government in the past but we are now down to one part-time prosthetic specialist which will obviously impact on delivery and waiting times.
“It is important that these vital professionals are offered a competitive salary which provides an incentive for them to work in Wales rather than across the border.
“The Wrexham service is used by a high number of people across the region and it is unacceptable that they are having to wait for months for what should be a routine appointment to fit or repair a limb.
“Showing our health professionals that they are valued in north Wales can only bring benefits to the region”.
