“Pressure must be maintained to get rail improvements” – Aled Roberts AM

Aled Roberts, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales, is continuing to challenge Wales’ Transport Minister to clarify proposed improvements to the rail network in North Wales.

Aled Roberts, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales, is continuing to challenge Wales’ Transport Minister to clarify proposed improvements to the rail network in North Wales.

Commenting after questions to the Minister in the Siambr today, Aled Roberts said:

I am grateful to the Minister for agreeing to provide some clarification in the form of a letter to all Assembly Members which will give more details of the scheme.

“It is particularly important that we get an update regarding how the Minister will address the impact of the reduction in the service in comparison with the original scheme on future rail capacity in north Wales.

“Cross-border rail links are essential to the economy of north-east Wales, and the Minister must work with her colleagues and counterparts in the UK Government to deliver a fit-for-purpose, integrated transport system without further delay.

“Whilst I welcome the Minister’s recognition of the importance of the issue in her answer to me today, I will continue to press the Welsh Labour Government for assurance that the scheme will provide sufficient capacity to increase rail links between north Wales and the north-west of England, particularly Liverpool and Manchester”.
